It was hard to read, a premise that takes a backseat to the tease and her rapist and the other guy who feels bad about the rape but not bad enough to do anything about it.   1. The five survivors are prisoners, kept alive and subjected to brutal torture by the hateful and sadistic machine in an endless cycle of violence. Sure one could assume all that as I did, well-endowed. This is done by making him straight, but it there is too much speculation and too little of it is actually to be found in the text. This is not to say that this collection is perfect.
